Members of the Rotary Club of Ayer, Shirley, Harvard and Devens have committed to collecting 1,000 lbs. of recyclable plastic bags and are hoping to reach that goal by the end of June 2024.

Club member and past President Dolores G. and Club President Doreen Q. accepted the NextTrek Recyling Challenge on behalf of our club and Thursday meetings nights find us carrying, dragging or whatever it takes to bring in our collected plastic film. Each bag is then weighed with the amount carefully logged into a "master plastic bag tracking chart". Bags have weighed in anywhere between 2.5 lbs. to just over 7 lbs. The Rotarian whose total bag weight is the highest will win a prize to be determined.

As of the beginning of January, Dolores and Doreen are making arrangements to meet with representatives at the Ayer Page Hilltop school who we hope will partner with us on this community recycling project.

Once we reach the magic number of 1,000 lbs, TREX will present our club with a TREX furniture bench which we will in turn donate to the school.

Until then... keep bagging those bags!
